Several years ago, when the Internet had just started becoming popular, I made the decision to find ways to make use of the Internet to spread the Gospel, provide hope to the hopeless, and to help Christians to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. (So it only makes sense that I would start a Christian Blog Site when the concept of blogs hit the Internet.)
To fulfill my desire to help Christians to grow I created a Spiritual Nuggets subscriber service, this was in the early stages of the Internet. We had many subscribers and would receive emails or phone calls from people around the U.S. thanking us for the Spiritual Nuggets. About three weeks we had someone who found our old archives on the web and said that the Spiritual Nuggets helped them tremendously.
Now that we have a blog, we thought it would be good to start posting the Spiritual Nuggets into our blog. So each day we will post a Nugget from the past. God's Word and the principles of Scripture are never outdated.
Needless to say it will take a long time to post over 100 Nuggets. So, here is a link to the archive for the Spiritual Nuggets.
We not only had Spiritual Nuggets, but inspiring poetry and stories. As time allows we will post some of them also.
Numbers 15:17-16:40
Numbers 15:17-21
Principle of giving God the first fruits
Numbers 15:30
Those who brazenly violate God's law were set apart from the community-they were cut off. Why? So that their sinful rebellion would not 'infect' the nation. At times a church may have to excommunicate someone whose rebellions is infecting the church.
Numbers 15:32-36
A person working on the Sabbath was stoned to death. This was the same punishment as one would receive for disobeying their parents. Why is it as Christians we take the Sabbath so lightly? Did God do away with one of His commandments? Did God change the Sabbath? He is the same today, yesterday, and forever.
Numbers 15:37-41
The tassels were to remind the people of the Ten Commandments. The fourth commandment is the only commandment that God says to remember. However, it is obvious that He wanted all the commandments to be remembered. So why did He emphasize to remember the fourth commandment? Because He knew it would be easy for man to forget it.
Numbers 16:1-40
You will want to read this passage, a movie could be made off of it. God will not put with rebellion and He will defend His faithful servants. Be aware, 'do not touch God's anointed'. Notice in this passage how Moses intercedes for the innocent and prays for God's judgment on the wicked.
This is a long devotional because there is some good meat.
Numbers 11:24-13:33
Numbers 11:24-29
God provided Moses co-laborers that were filled with the Spirit of God.
vs 26-29 We should not be jealous of people having the gifts of God. Joshua was showing his immaturity.
Numbers 11:31-35
God provided the quails but still judged them for their grumbling spirit.
Numbers 12:1-16
Miriam and Aaron were suppose to be a support to Moses, instead they became prideful and judgmental. God made it clear to them that Moses was His appointed man. Why did God take such a strong stand for Moses? Because Moses was humble and did not defend himself.
Numbers 13:1-33
vs 23-24 They took evidence of how fruitful the land was that they went into.
vs 27 The men proclaimed that the land was fruitful.
vs 28 Even though the land was fruitful and blessed, it was a land of fortified cities and giants.
vs 30 Even though Caleb had seen the fortified cities and giants he was determined that they could conquer the land. God had said He would give them a promised land-it was obvious that this was the land.
vs 31-33 The other men were not focused on God being their strength, so they were filled with fear and spread the fear to the nation of Israel. Their fear drove them to the point of lying. They said they were see as grasshoppers in the people's eyes. Is this true? They were spies, they were hiding, the people did not see them. The people did not talk to them. They made this up to justify their fear. What if they had been controlled by God's Spirit instead of the spirit of fear?
Very tired, worked late and got up early, so late on this devotional. Did not want to ‘bother with it’, but God spoke to me and confirmed some things to me. That is why it is good to be faithful to daily Bible reading.
Numbers 10:1-11:23
Numbers 10:1-28
God gave the Israelites specific directions on how they were to proceed. God gives each of us specific directions on how we are to proceed. Are we being obedient so that He will be with us in our battles?
Numbers 10:33-36
Great proclamations by Moses.
Numbers 11:1-3
God is providing protection, safety, food, etc. yet the people are complaining. We can be the same way. Watch out for the judgment of God.
Numbers 11:4-15
Like my pastor jokes at times, 'Ministry would be wonderful if you could just get rid of the people'. Ministry can be challenging at times. But we must be faithful to the call of God.
Also, it helps to try and understand people. This be honest, even though God is miraculously providing manna, it would get old after awhile. Instead of complaining the Israelites should have put in a request to Moses for something different. Can we not be thankful for what God has provided, but also let him know our desires?
Numbers 11:16-23
The negativity of the people rubs off on Moses and He starts to question God's ability to provide. Leaders need to be careful that are not influenced by those they are to lead.
Numbers 8:1-9:23
Numbers 8:1-26
The Levites were dedicated to be servants of God.
Numbers 9:1-14
Celebration of the Passover was important to God. Why? Because the ceremony was to be a reminder to the people where they came from, of their deliverance. This would hopefully help prevent them from wanting to go back to Egypt.
Take note of what the Passover feast was made up of. The lamb represented Jesus. The lambs bones were not to be broken-Jesus bones were not broken. They were to eat bitter greens. This was to remind them of the bitterness of slavery. It is a reminder to us of the bitterness of sin. Jesus had to partake of the bitterness of sin and death. Bread without yeast. Yeast is symbolic of sin. Jesus had no sin.
Numbers 9:15-23
Even with the pillar of fire and the cloud the people would still rebel against God. That is why when the religious leaders would command Jesus to perform a miracle, He would not do it. He knew that even miracles will not change a person with a wicked, hard heart.
Numbers 6:1-7:89
Numbers 6:1-21
The Nazarite vow was taken by individuals to say that they were being set apart for holiness.
Notice that a Nazarite was not to have anything alcoholic or even the potential of having alcohol. During those times the only way to be sure to not drink alcohol would be to stay away from grapes.
Why was a Nazarite to stay away from alcohol? Obvious-poor decisions are made while under in the influence of alcohol. So, why would Christians want to be under the influence of alcohol?
Why long hair for the Nazarite? Most likely because the long hair would identify the man as a Nazarite.
Numbers 6:22-27
Aaron's Benediction. We should pray this over others-May the Lord bless you and keep you, make His face shine on you and be gracious to you, lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
Numbers 7:1-87
During these twelve days of sacrifices, there was a multitude of sacrifices with blood flowing everywhere. However, no matter how much blood was shed, it takes the blood of Jesus for the redemption of man. All of the sacrifices were only pointing to the sacrificial death of Jesus.
Numbers 7:88
God's presence was at the Ark of the Covenant. God would speak to Moses directly. We do not have to go to a church, a seminar, etc. for God to speak to us. He can speak to us wherever we are at. However, at the same time, church, seminars, etc. can help prepare our minds and heart to hear from God.
